So in honour of both celebrations, I'm hosting the 1st Annual FaeriedTreasures Jewelry giveaway!!!
Before I explain the rules and how this whole thing is gonna work, let me introduce you to the prize!
Minerva's Wisdom-

Green, turquoise, aqua and gold. This wise little Czech glass owl hides under two dainty glass flowers. Hung from a 17.5" solid vintage brass chain adorned with turquoise melon beads and Picasso finished aqua glass donut beads. All findings are either solid brass or 24k gold plated. The owl has long been a symbol for the Goddess Minerva (the Roman name for the Greek Goddess Athena. She was considered to be the virgin Goddess of warriors, poetry, medicine, wisdom, commerce, crafts and the inventor of music.
So lets see if we can make some connections.
I am in pain and will be having a root canal tomorrow... Medicine
I am giving away a beautiful necklace... The Roman Goddess Ops, Giver of all riches (and consequently the date August 25th, and the festival in her honour.
Flowers... During the celebration of Consualia, Animals were adorned with flowers and lead throughout the towns. (get it, the Owl is adorned with flowers)
Owl... wisdom
My Etsy shop... commerce
My jewelry... my craft
The only things that dont make sense are warriors and poetry, and thats really saying something. *smile*
Anywho-
Just look at that owl.
You want him, don't you?
Trust me, he wants you too!
Heres how to play!
In the comments section on this blog entry, write either a haiku, limerick, or other short poem (see the connection there?) About whatever topic you like. It could be about warriors, for example (another connection) or about anything you like. Just so long as its not dirty (no "I once met a girl from angina, she showed everyone her-" Yeah, none of that. Stuff like that will NOT get you chosen.
However, to make the game play more fair, MY HUSBAND will be the one choosing the winning entry. I have no idea what criterion he will be judging by, or how he will choose the winner. It may be completely random, but just in case, playing on his delusions of grandeur couldn't hurt. *smile*
YOU MUST LEAVE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN THE COMMENT. Feel free to leave it as xxxxx(at)dontwantspam(dot)com or whatever, but it must be correct, or otherwise I have no idea how to contact you!
If you are reading this via google reader or rss feed or LJ Syndicated feed, YOU MUST leave a comment ON THE ACTUAL BLOG. I wont be accepting entries left in comment form on my personal LJ account or any other way. Don't email me your entry. It must be left in a comment HERE!
The winner will be chosen on the morning of August 25th, and I will post the winning entry and alerting the winner via email on AUGUST 25th. Thats Monday, folks. Today is Thursday. That leaves THREE WHOLE DAYS to play.
Limited to two (2) entries per household at separate email addresses. Contestants must be residents of The USA, Canada or western Europe. Sorry to the countries not listed here, but shipping is either too expensive for a giveaway, or shipping jewelry is restricted by customs.
In case of a tie, I will read the tied entries to my mom (yep, my mom) and she will choose the winner. Also in this case, both tied entries will be posted on the 25th, and alerted via email, and the runner up will be rewarded a prize as well (not sure what, but it'll be cool.)
So HAVE AT! Wish me luck with the dentist tomorrow, and GET CRACKIN!

Owl sits in the tree,
Birds flutter all around him,
Surrounding him in symphony

Let's see...
"There is a sea within your eyes of blue
where mad waves break, white-capped and tempest-tossed.
Their storm engulfs me when I gaze on you—
one look, and in their waters I am lost.
Bare-ribbed, my ship lies battered near a rock,
with bare-ribbed sailors manning every port.
Lungs filled with brine, I realize in shock
that soon my ragged breaths will be cut short.
Once you’ve passed by, my mind returns, now free
from thoughts of shipwreck on the churning tide.
The fatal beauty of that scene haunts me
and brings forth a conclusion, long denied:
since death may be a blessing in disguise,
what better way to drown than in your eyes?"

yellow yellow yellow yellow
gray
world falls away
i want this day
to end
like it began
where i ran and ran and ran
for sanctity
a church to raise to bear
my self
a lying man who tells a tale
of flawless love and peace of mind
of parting seas and curing blind
his lies, my faith, there's no remorse
he spins his tale with brutal force
my lies, his faith, my breathing grace
i ran from life erased my face
yellow yellow yellow
all is black
seeing eyes know not the mind
a lying man who spewed his worth
a subtle writ that shunned my birth
from light and love and heaven-bound
his lies, my faith, so now profound
he picks from the lists, left and right
only to find one that might
actually fit the need.
he sees his lady and saves the day
showing her the one right way,
"brosely's is the key!"

This poem took longer to write
Than it took you to read.

Cultuur
betekend in het latijns
colere
Dus feitelijk
wens je iemand
een hoop cultuur toe
af en toe
--
(It's better in dutch but i'll give you the translation because well, dutch isn't very usefull here)
Culture
comes from the latin word
Colere
So practically
you tell someone
to get a lot of culture
sometimes
(Colere is sometimes used as a minor swearword in dutch, it's usually spelled "Kolere" or "Klere" it refers to the disease Cholera. So it's basically a bit of wordplay... The actual latin word 'colere' means "to cultivate" I believe.)
(poezebeestje(at)gmail(dot)com though I don't expect to win since it's in dutch and needs a lot of explanation :P it just doesn't work in english :<
In Athena’s Shrine
Maiden, I make this prayer
Though I’m not a maiden now
From my heart’s deep love for you.
Wings as silent as a breath,
Hunting down truth in dark ways,
Stay beside me, Parthenos.
When I need a warrior’s strength,
Hang bronze armor on my soul.
Let me serve my city well,
And speak wisdom in my heart
So that truth may find the light
And fly forth on wings of day.

And some day
When the skies are no longer grey
We'd all gather beneath this tree
And understand our need to be free.
For, at least,
We can always dream can't we?

Wonder left wanting
hunter owl is haunting
as whispers in air
There once was a young man named Zero,
He loved to play Guitar Hero,
He strummed to Led Zep,
Though his wife said, Oh Heck!,
So he tossed her right out on her Rear-o!

I try a haiku
not sure i know what to do
but i want to win
:)
great giveaway! I hope i'm the lucky winner
I am SO in love with this necklace!!! Here's my entry =)
Silent as moonlight
The owl alights on branches
Who speaks to him, who?
KRISTYN311@aol.com <3 u!!!!
The moon is a dancer
playing hide and seek
behind the buildings
and trees
and clouds
peeking like a child
over the top
and side
hiding in that silver-edged darkness
drawing it across her face like
a gypsy dancer's shawl
wrapping it around her like
a belly dancer's scarf
shining full glow
It's a beautiful necklace! Good luck to everyone! ^_^
Dear flowered Owl,
Green, blue, gold brilliance
Hiding behind the flora,
Has she been seen?
Wise Minerva..
